ARTIST STATEMENT
I am a visual artist working in collage, assemblage and mixed media. My work is an intuitive approach to art, I allow the creative process to lead me to my subject matter and then follow the natural movement and direction of each piece. The work takes on a life of its own and very often I am surprised by the finished product. Each piece acts as a catalyst mirroring to me the many levels of an experience. A dream, a thought, an emotion have many components not all of which reveal themselves to our conscious mind. My work teaches me about the totality of an experience and the many levels we are capable of functioning on. Each piece is a very profound and personal experience and reveals to me a visual counterpart to the invisible, ethereal and often illusive world of thoughts, dreams and emotions.
My Studio
I use metals, wood, papers, plastics, and found objects; combine these with painting, drawing and printmaking; then layer all of these elements onto a permanent surface. I continually recycle, rework and redefine in my work. The process of creating each piece is as representative as the imagery and subject matter, it is a mirror of my own process to interpret and understand life events. I generally work in a series of 2-6 pieces with components of one passing onto and into the next piece until I have exhausted the subject matter. All of my work is provided with a certificate of authenticity signed by the artist. All rights are reserved.
"Art Truck" painted by 8 of my students, ages 7-10
In addition to being an exhibiting visual artist I have taught private art lessons, created not for profit arts education programs and designed creative arts education material at the K-12 level. The arts should be accessible to everyone and an aspect of all children’s public education regardless of income, ability or geography.

The way to achieve understanding, acceptance and inclusion of all people regardless of race, gender, background or ability is through education and exposure. I am an artist with disabilities. These disabilities are entwined throughout my work, one can not exist without the other. I use my artwork and the creative process to express, understand and filter life experiences. These outlets of expression and self discovery combined with my art education and experience are my passion. I want to help build awareness that people who face any kind of limitation can overcome obstacles and discrimination to make positive contributions to society.
